Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has approved £50 million move for Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, according to reports.
Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen on signing Matic this summer and was even close to signing the midfielder before a deal for Romelu Lukaku’s complicated the move.
Blues manager Antonio Conte was said to be furious at his side’s slow approach to transfers this window, which saw deals for Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko fast-tracked while Alvaro Morata is expected to be unveiled as a Chelsea player in coming days.
Manchester United have already had two bids for Matic rejected by Chelsea who changed their stance about selling the midfielder to United.
However, reports in The Telegraph have it that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has stepped in to give the club permission to sell the Serbian after initial stand-off.
Nemanja Matic has been an integral figure for Chelsea since he returned to Stamford Bridge from Benfica but the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko means the end of the career with the Premier League champions.
Italian champions Juventus have also been tipped to make a move for the midfielder but it is understood that they are unwilling to meet Chelsea’s valuation and will move for Liverpool’s Emre Can instead.
